Egypt Establishes World’s Largest Date Plantation with 2.3 Million Trees
Egypt has begun establishing the world’s largest date plantation. A total of
2.3 million palm trees will be planted in the Toshka and Al-Owainat regions.
Egypt is already the world leader in date production, accounting for more than
19% of global output. The government continues to strengthen this position
through extensive development and modernisation efforts aimed at advancing the entire dates sector.
Ongoing initiatives include upgrading factories, establishing new packaging stations, and enhancing processing infrastructure.
Today, more than 150 industrial enterprises operate in the field of date processing and packaging across the country.
Modern cold-storage facilities with a capacity of 4,000 tonnes have already been constructed,
and key production complexes continue to be upgraded — further supporting Egypt’s leadership in this strategic agricultural sector.
Scientific Fact
Your Brain Burns 400–500 Calories a Day
It’s true that the brain burns approximately
400–500 calories per day while performing its basic functions,
even at rest. Although the brain makes up only about 2% of the body’s weight,
it consumes roughly 20% of the body’s total energy.
Most of this energy is used for constant activities such as controlling muscles, regulating organs,
and processing sensory input. The brain is a high-energy organ, and even during sleep, it uses
at least 240 calories per day to maintain essential functions.
While intense mental tasks—like solving complex math problems—increase glucose consumption, the
extra calories burned are minimal and not significant enough to contribute meaningfully to weight loss.
History of Science
Cardiac Pacemaker
The first successful implantable artificial pacemaker was developed by Rune Elmqvist and implanted by Åke Senning into patient Arne Larsson in Sweden on October 8, 1958.
This early device, powered by a rechargeable battery, marked a revolutionary moment in medical engineering. Although the first implanted model failed within hours, the patient survived and went on to receive numerous improved pacemakers throughout his life.
The artificial cardiac pacemaker is an implanted medical device that generates electrical pulses delivered by electrodes to one or more heart chambers. These pulses stimulate the heart to contract and pump blood, regulating the function of the heart’s electrical conduction system and supporting proper cardiac rhythm.
