Egypt vaccine manufacturing hub in SCZone

Monthly Forum:

Egypt builds a $220m vaccine manufacturing hub in SCZone

Rather than treating vaccines as a purely public-sector or emergency-response issue, Egypt is positioning pharmaceutical manufacturing as a strategic export industry tied to health security, foreign currency generation, and private-sector growth.

The project reflects lessons learned during the Covid-19 pandemic, when global supply chain disruptions exposed the risks of relying on external suppliers for essential medicines.

While the immediate focus is vaccine production, the broader significance of the project lies in what it represents: Egypt’s ambition to become a regional pharmaceutical manufacturing platform, not just a consumer market. The project could strengthen Egypt’s health security, expand its export base, and anchor a higher-value pharmaceutical ecosystem—turning a crisis-era lesson into a long-term industrial advantage.

Golden retriever dog sitting

Scientific Fact:

Dogs have 2 different air passages, 1 for breathing and 1 for smelling.

A dog’s nose separates the air that goes into it into two portions. One portion goes to lungs and is dedicated to breathing, while the other portion is sent directly to the olfactory sensing area and is dedicated to smell. This area has up to 300 million receptors compared to the approximately six million sensors that we humans have.

Dogs’ noses are designed so that air can move in and out at the same time, creating a continuous circulation of air. They inhale through their nostrils and exhale through slits at the side of the nose. As they breathe in and out, they are also smelling in stereo.

Immunotherapy history of science visual

History of Science:

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy for cancer treatment is often perceived as a relatively recent advance.

However, one should be looking for the beginnings of cancer immunotherapy under different names as far as in the Antiquity. The first scientific attempts to modulate patients' immune systems to cure cancer can be attributed to two German physicians, Fehleisen and Busch, who independently noticed significant tumour regression after erysipelas infection. The next significant advances came from William Bradley Coley who is known today as the Father of Immunotherapy. It was Coley who first attempted to harness the immune system for treating bone cancer in 1891.

Over the years cancer treatment showed several achievements starting from the very first attempts up to the 2018 Nobel Prize winners James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation.

VISIO A/I 300

Manufactured by: PbL - Italy

Our Pharma Division offers an innovative and flexible inspection machine for Glass container. The main goal was to create a machine capable of performing particle and cosmetic inspections all over the container surface. This has been possible thanks to a new “Neck Handling” system and dedicated inspection stations supported by Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence is the core of our machine: it allows to obtain an extremely accurate inspection of particle and cosmetic defects, and thus to overcome many past issues and/or false rejects (such as air bubbles, silk-screening on containers, aesthetic defects of the containers that are considered non-relevant). The handling flexibility provided by the automated “Neck Handling” system avoids any bottle contact with any surface during the inspection process, thus preserving the integrity and quality of the containers by in advance eliminating any source of defects. These features, together with an extremely compact design, make VISIO a unique modular machine.
