Taco Chilled & Hot Water Buffer Tanks (BTH, BTL)

  • Taco Buffer Tanks add fluid volume and thermal storage to chilled and hot water systems, helping balance system demand with boiler or chiller capacity. When correctly sized, they reduce frequent cycling and support improved equipment operation.
  • The tanks feature carbon steel construction, an exterior red oxide primer finish and a solid internal baffle. Multiple orientations, connection arrangements and insulation options accommodate different installation requirements. Standard design rating is 125 psi at 375°F, with higher ratings and custom configurations available.
  • Nominal capacity: 50–3,000 US gallons (approximately 189–11,356 litres); actual volume varies by model.
  • Material: Carbon steel with exterior red oxide primer; alternative materials available upon request.
  • Standard design rating: 125 psi at 375°F (approximately 8.6 bar at 191°C).
  • Optional ratings: 150 psi (10.3 bar); 400°F or 450°F (204°C or 232°C), subject to factory selection. Custom ratings available.
  • Configurations: Vertical or horizontal, with high, low, top or side connections depending on model.
  • Connections: Flanged or grooved, in sizes from 2" to 12" depending on model; flanges are ANSI Class 150 raised face.
  • Threaded option: 2" or 2½" female NPT on 50–350 gallon tanks.
  • Construction details: Solid internal baffle, raised nameplate, and base ring or saddle supports.
  • Insulation: Uninsulated; ½"–2" Armaflex for chilled water; 1"–2" silicone/fibreglass for indoor hot water; or 2"–3" aluminium-jacketed polyisocyanurate for chilled/hot water.
  • Outdoor options: Aluminium-jacketed chilled water insulation.
  • Custom options: Capacities, materials, connections, insulation and anchor clips for vertical models.
  • Helps reduce boiler and chiller short cycling.
  • Helps limit equipment wear and damage associated with frequent cycling.
  • Provides thermal storage to meet demand between operating cycles.
  • Offers installation flexibility through multiple configurations and connections.
  • Provides insulation options suited to heating, cooling and installation conditions.
  • Chilled water hydronic systems.
  • Hot water hydronic heating systems.
  • Boiler and chiller systems requiring additional fluid volume or thermal buffer storage.
  • ASME: Section VIII, Division 1 design and construction; ASME stamping stated.
  • National Board: Registration stated.
  • ISO 9001: Manufacturer’s quality management certification mark shown on the datasheet.
