Egypt factory rooftops with solar energy systems for the July 2026 Monthly Forum

Monthly Forum:

Egypt’s factory solar plan is changing industry

Egypt’s plan to install solar systems on factory rooftops is becoming more than a renewable energy initiative. It is now part of a wider industrial competitiveness strategy.

The Ministry of Industry has introduced the “Industry Sun” initiative to ceramics and sanitary ware manufacturers, with 25 companies attending a workshop focused on reducing energy consumption, lowering carbon emissions and improving production efficiency.

Ceramics and sanitary ware factories will prepare action plans to cut natural gas consumption by up to 25% and electricity use by 15%.

The wider initiative aims to install 1,000 megawatts of solar energy systems on the roofs of factories and industrial facilities during its first phase.

04
Scientific Fact:

Sound waves travel about 4 times faster through water than they do through air.

Sound waves travel about four times faster through water (roughly 1,500 meters per second) than through air (about 343 meters per second) because water molecules are packed much more closely together, allowing vibrational energy to transfer rapidly from one particle to the next. Tightly spaced molecules in water pass kinetic energy faster than widely spaced gas molecules in air.

History of Science:

Thermometers

Historical thermometer instruments representing the evolution of thermometry

The thermometer was not invented all at once but evolved through key milestones starting with Galileo Galilei's thermoscope in the 1590s, Santorio's scaled device in 1612, and Daniel Fahrenheit's modern mercury thermometer in 1714. In 1742, Anders Celsius proposed the base 100-degree scale for measuring water freezing and boiling points.

The 20th century transformed thermometers from simple liquid-in-glass tools into advanced electronic and radiation-based devices, driven by three major milestones: platinum resistance standardization, the invention of the infrared pyrometer, and the shift toward digital electronics.

The most recent developments in thermometry include quantum atom-based sensors, smart connected health ecosystems, and advanced non-contact infrared instruments.

Celebration:

World Embryologist Day - July 25, 2026

World Embryologist Day is a landmark date in the history of reproductive medicine. It is celebrated every year to honor the birth of the world's first IVF baby, and to thank embryologists for their hard work. This incredible achievement changed the future of fertility treatment forever, and at the heart of every such success since are embryologists.

It not only commemorates the significant scientific achievement but also recognizes the invaluable work of embryologists worldwide.
