Egypt targets diabetes with homegrown Insulin.
Egypt has achieved a significant milestone in its healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors with the production of its first batch of locally manufactured insulin glargine. This initiative marks a critical step toward achieving self-sufficiency in drug production and addressing the growing needs of diabetic populations in Egypt and Africa. Diabetes poses a growing health challenge in the country and across Africa.
Insulin glargine is a long-acting insulin widely used to manage diabetes, a condition that affects an estimated 15.5% of Egypt’s population.
This initiative aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy to enhance pharmaceutical self-reliance. Currently, 90% of the country’s pharmaceutical needs are met locally, and this project is set to further solidify Egypt’s position as a regional leader in drug manufacturing.

Scientific Facts

Octopuses have three hearts
An octopus’s three hearts have slightly different roles. Two of the hearts work exclusively to move blood past the animal’s gills, where it releases carbon dioxide and gains oxygen. Then, the third heart circulates that oxygen-rich blood to the organs and muscles, giving them energy. Also, they have blue blood, because it uses a copper-rich protein to transport oxygen unlike the iron-based protein in human’s blood.

History of Science

Remote Controls
Remote controls are one of the most important symbols of our modern technologies. Although remotes are most closely linked to television control in popular culture, these devices predate TV. In fact, remote controls are an invention born in the 1800s.
Renowned Serbian American inventor Nikola Tesla created one of the world’s first wireless remote controls, which he unveiled in New York City in 1898. He called his fledgling system, which could be used to control a range of mechanical contraptions, a “tele automaton.”
