Egypt launches digital visa-on-arrival system at Cairo Airport

Egypt has signed two agreements to operate a new digital visa-on-arrival system at Cairo International Airport, marking a major step toward modernizing airport procedures and improving the travel experience, with plans to expand the system nationwide.

Under the new mechanism, eligible travellers can obtain a visa on arrival through self-service kiosks at airports, the official online platform, or a mobile application, with payment completed electronically and issuance in the form of a QR code verified at passport control.

Scientific Fact

About half of your body’s cells are bacteria.

Experts estimate that the human body consists of 39 trillion bacteria and 30 trillion human cells, a roughly 1:1.3 ratio. But because bacteria are so small, they make up about only 1% to 3% of our body mass. In the past, researchers thought we were much more bacteria than human, with a ratio of 10:1.

The 10:1 ratio is a popular textbook myth that was debunked by modern researchers .The most recent scientific estimates reveal that a typical "reference" adult human (weighing around 70 kg) hosts the following:

Human cells: ≈30 trillion + Bacterial cells: 39 trillion

Total Cellular Ratio: 1.3:1 (Bacteria to Human)

History of Science

Concrete

Ancient Romans are credited as one of the first societies to use concrete in architecture. Incredibly, many of the ancient buildings are not only standing, but remain in good condition some 2,000 years later.

However, the ancient Egyptians used a crude form of concrete in their buildings much earlier in 3000 B.C., employing forms of concrete mixed with ash and salt water to create mortar.

Concrete is strong in compression but breaks easily in tension, so the invention of reinforced steel-concrete toward the end of the 19th century in France, which lends concrete some of steel's tensile strength, enabled concrete to be used more widely in construction.

Celebration

Eid Al-Adha (May 27, 2026)

Eid Al-Adha, also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice,” is one of the two major Islamic holidays and is observed annually in Egypt and across the Muslim world. The holiday coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage season. The festival falls on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It coincides with the climax of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, which is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

Eid al-Adha is typically greeted with joy and excitement and is marked with congregational prayers and festivities that usually include family visits, gatherings, outings and new clothes.
