Taco Hydraulic Separators (5900 FlexBalance Series)

  • Taco 5900 Separators create a low-pressure-drop hydraulic bridge between primary and secondary circuits, allowing their pumps to operate independently and helping prevent unwanted flow between circuits.
  • Standard FlexBalance models use internal baffles. FlexBalance Plus models incorporate PALL Rings to combine microbubbles for venting and collect dirt for discharge through a blowdown valve, integrating hydraulic separation and system cleaning in one unit.
  • Connection sizes: 2"–12".
  • Body: Steel construction.
  • Standard working rating: 125 psi at 270°F (approximately 8.6 bar at 132°C).
  • Optional pressure ratings: 150 psi; 250 psi units referenced in the mechanical specifications, subject to factory selection.
  • Connections: Flanged, threaded up to 3", or Victaulic/grooved options.
  • Standard internals: Baffles for hydraulic separation.
  • Plus internals: Stainless steel PALL Ring baskets for air and dirt separation.
  • Plus separation capability: Microbubbles down to 18 microns and dirt/debris down to 35 microns.
  • Optimum flow rates: 63–1,409 US gpm (approximately 14.3–320 m³/h), depending on model.
  • Air vent: Integral brass conical venting chamber.
  • Plus cleaning: Bottom blowdown valve for accumulated dirt.
  • Options: ½" temperature/pressure ports on all nozzles; removable cover on Plus models for basket inspection and cleaning.
  • Allows primary and secondary pumps to operate independently.
  • Helps prevent hydraulic interference and unintended flows between circuits.
  • Supports variable-flow operation and energy savings.
  • Low pressure drop can allow smaller circuit pumps.
  • Plus models combine hydraulic, air and dirt separation, reducing separate components and installation space.
  • Integrated venting and blowdown simplify system maintenance.
  • Primary–secondary hydronic heating and cooling systems.
  • Boiler and chiller connections to distribution circuits.
  • Multiple-boiler and multiple-chiller installations.
  • Systems with different circuit flow rates or operating temperatures.
  • Low-mass boiler systems requiring controlled boiler flow.
  • ASME: Designed, manufactured and tested to Section VIII, Division 1.
  • National Board: Registration mark displayed in the datasheet.
  • ISO 9001: Manufacturer’s quality management certification mark displayed.
